Tonight, I’ve been asked to speak before the screening at the Media Arts Production Skills course that I teach editing at. This screening is for the Advanced Diploma students (the diploma students had their screening 2 days ago – great stuff)
So I thought I’d come up with a short film drinking game, as 2 days ago I noticed some empty bottles of alcohol at the screening.
Here’s what I’ve come up with:
Take a drink:
- Every time a movie opens with an alarm clock going off
- Someone cries
- Swearing for no real reason
- Someone looks into a mirror
- You see someone walk through a door to enter or exit a scene
- You see a boom in shot
- You see the blinking light of the camera in a reflection
- Out of focus – 2 drinks if it snaps into focus midway through
- An actor pops up in more than one movie
- An “actor” looks more uncomfortable than a cow at an abattoir
- If you suspect that actor is somehow related to the director
- Too much voiceover
- Sound out of sync
- Bewildering cutaways
- You find yourself trying to suppress a laugh cos it’s not meant to be funny
- A character played by someone 20 years too young
- If the credits go longer than the film
- The crew is credited before the cast
- The directors name pops up 3 or more times in the credits
- Every time I’m thanked in the credits – take 2 drinks
- A film best described by “Young person trying to get laid”
Have any more to add? Put them in the comments below.
Cheers,
Jas
