Short film drinking game

Tonight, I’ve been asked to speak before the screening at the Media Arts Production Skills course that I teach editing at.  This screening is for the Advanced Diploma students (the diploma students had their screening 2 days ago – great stuff)

So I thought I’d come up with a short film drinking game, as 2 days ago I noticed some empty bottles of alcohol at the screening.

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Take a drink:

  1. Every time a movie opens with an alarm clock going off
  2. Someone cries
  3. Swearing for no real reason
  4. Someone looks into a mirror
  5. You see someone walk through a door to enter or exit a scene
  6. You see a boom in shot
  7. You see the blinking light of the camera in a reflection
  8. Out of focus – 2 drinks if it snaps into focus midway through
  9. An actor pops up in more than one movie
  10. An “actor” looks more uncomfortable than a cow at an abattoir
  11. If you suspect that actor is somehow related to the director
  12. Too much voiceover
  13. Sound out of sync
  14. Bewildering cutaways
  15. You find yourself trying to suppress a laugh cos it’s not meant to be funny
  16. A character played by someone 20 years too young
  17. If the credits go longer than the film
  18. The crew is credited before the cast
  19. The directors name pops up 3 or more times in the credits
  20. Every time I’m thanked in the credits – take 2 drinks
  21. A film best described by “Young person trying to get laid”

Have any more to add?  Put them in the comments below.

Cheers,
